As we come to the end of March, I've got a reward to move from our pending to delivered list. Which is good timing, because I'm still in the process of tweaking our Pending Reward list appearance, so a bit less to work with makes that easier.

Which is a good time to note that, while I'm not quite ready to start the order lockdown process this month... I am expecting to outline our order lockdown dates for our hardcover rewards in the April month end update. So, while we've still got a bit of time before anyone needs to triple-confirm addresses and shipping info, I believe it's coming up soon and it may be worth digging in to your BackerKit account to confirm your order and your shipping information for expected delivery in, oh, let's say mid-July/early-August.

At the end of each month, Onyx Path will be posting an update showing the current status of all of their projects and where each sits on the project tracking chart. In the weekly Monday Meeting Notes blogs, Rich will note any projects that have changed status, sometimes with developer notes, since the big monthly summary.

In the February 2022 update, I talked about how the print files for the book have been finalized and submitted to the printer, but new processes and schedules have Onyx Path waiting for a slot in the summer to print the book. This is a discount link for the PoD version that will soon be released for purchase on DriveThruRPG.com (but YOU can order it earlier, and at a discounted cost if you wish!) As noted, the hardcovers are currently slated to be printed in Summer 2022 and will be shipped out to you as soon as they are available.
DIFFERENCES IN PoD FORMATS
So, for those backers who pledged at the Tier-TwoHunter reward tier, or those backers who will later be receiving the hardcover book but might be looking for a second copy for the table, there are two different versions of Print-On-Demand options available.
Standard Color uses a thick 70# white paper which has better page opacity. (that's "70 pound" for reference, but does not mean each page weighs 70 lbs!). Standard Heavyweight Color uses inkjet technology. (These are not the same inkjet printers you have at home - these are often as big or bigger than a car!) This option offers lower cost but the colors won't be as sharp or bright as a Premium Color book.
Premium Color uses the same 70# paper, but uses "Digital Color Print Engine Technology," which sounds super fancy and certainly costs a lot more, but I'll admit to not knowing the exact difference. This option offers superior color quality but is more expensive to produce, and has gotten even more expensive over the past year.
(Remember to login to DriveThruRPG prior to clicking or pasting the discount link in your BackerKit digital rewards locker, if you that was part of your rewards list! That link is your coupon and must be usedfor your PoD order.)

February 2022 Update

Hello Hunters,
We're in the final week of February, so it's time for our regular monthly check in.
I'm trying out a new format for our "Pending Items" list - something a little more graphic, but I'm terrible at design so it's pretty ugly right now. Also, I've lost this page three times so far trying to set it up. So, sort of following along with the state of things over the past three years. But we'll get there. We keep the Vigil.
REWARDS STILL PENDING
Manuscript Progress Stages
A)Contracts & Outlines - Writers are hired, an outline is created, reviewed, and approved.
B)First Draft - Writers turn in their initial draft
C) Redlines - Developers make notes and inform writers of desired changes
D) Second / Final Draft - Writers turn in subsequent drafts based on developer Redlines and ongoing feedback
E) Development - Developers tie everything together and make any desired final changes
F) Manuscript Review & Approval - The developed manuscript is reviewed by Content Leads, In-House Developers, Creative Director, and possibly License Holders for final approval
G) Post-Approval Development - If changes are requested or additional miscellaneous development needed
H) Editing - Editors check for typos, nomenclature, and formatting errors
I) Post-Editing Development - Additional approval and minor fixes from Developers
J) Indexing - Larger rulebooks have a comprehensive index created, after any layout adjustments are made
Production Progress Stages
1) Art Direction - Art notes are collected from developers, and artists are hired according to the needs of the line and book.
2) Layout - Typeface, coloration, and art are chosen, added to the manuscript text, and laid out for visual appeal
3) Proofing - The final book layout is checked over by the art director, creative director, and sometimes the developer to make sure everything appears as it should.
4) Release Prep - The product is prepared for print/digital release
5) Print Proofing - test prints are reviewed and approved
6) At Press - Offset print runs have begun, or Print-on-Demand books are made available to order
Basically, the Hunter: The Vigil Second Edition book is ready to go... but ongoing delays at the printer have pushed back the schedule. Last year, Onyx Path ended up having to wait 12 months for an open 'slot' at their printer. This year, it won't be so bad, but it'll likely be June before we can begin our lockdown procedure and start figuring out our delivery schedule. Again, as always, thank you for your patience and understanding in this extremely frustrating and fraught time.
(As an aside, <THIS SUMMARY> from Extra Credits gives a great overview of the issues that everyone's been dealing with. It primarily focuses on board game publishers, but the situation spills out across all industries and also carries through to affect distribution and retail as well. As a bonus, the script was written by Onyx Path's own Eddy Webb!)
For the Print-on-Demand version, the team are waiting on test proofs before they can prepare for release. The contracts are being signed and outlines are happening for the Jumpstart and the Companion PDFs that we unlocked via Stretch Goal. So, progress is slow, but it is happening.

January 2022 Update

Hello Hunters,
Here we are, the first update of 2022. In the two years since we launched our Kickstarter campaign for Hunter: The Vigil Second Edition, we've been tested the entire time. I think we've all showed great patience on our vigil, and we're going to need to be a little more patient as we move through this year.
Due to the continuing challenges for printers in obtaining paper, ink, personnel, and shipping arrangements, our printer has not yet given us a date they will be printing Hunter: The Vigil 2e, so we won't be able to deliver your rewards until we're able to print and ship the books. Once we know, we will let you know our new expected shipping date. Sorry for the delay, and thanks for your understanding during these difficult times.

We rely on our indexers to organize the information in the back of the book in an accessible way, and their work is as important as any other step in the process. (Also, they almost always catch a few typos we and the errata process didn’t!)

While we've received our backer versions of the Hunter: The Vigil PDF, I can't wait for all of the indexing and finishing touches to be applied and have the final PDF released. Hopefully that won't be too much longer, and then the next major step of getting the book printed can begin. Onyx Path has been dealing with many hurdles on that front, but hopefully 2022 will be kinder and we'll have our books in hand before too much longer.

ONYX PATH CROWDFUNDING IN 2021
Another challenging year. While there were some moments of taking two steps forward and one step back, at least there was some forward momentum. Onyx Path spent the previous year restructuring and adapting their processes to better function during the pandemic, but still external issues presented (and continue to present) challenges. Paper shortages, manufacturing difficulties, shipping and storage problems. The new normal.
Despite all of that, Onyx Path was able to get some products out, at least digitally, during the year.
While the massive paper shortage and manufacturing issues kept many of these from seeing print in 2021, they're all currently scheduled to attain physical form in early 2022. Here's hoping the process keeps moving forward and we can finally ship these rewards. Even with that caveat, that's still a pretty impressive list of stuff that's out and available to play.
Another solid year and another batch of fun and interesting projects added to Onyx Path's future release list. In supporting these during the crowdfunding phase, we've also managed to add these extra projects to the schedule:
